The Biggest E3 Announcements This Year
E3 is considered to be one of the biggest events in the gaming industry. Formally it’s a trade show where publishers, manufactures, and developers showcase their new games, accessories, and merchandise along with updates about the industry and changes coming within the companies themselves.
Over the years, E3 has become the staple for major announcements but after last year’s cancellation due to COVID-19, a lot of gamers were wondering if the event is even relevant because announcements were still made and developers were still communicating with their fans and so the 2021 show had a lot to prove!
E3 returned in 2021 with some MAJOR announcements from the likes of Xbox, Nintendo, Bethesda and how they are planning their future with the likes of Sony for PlayStation titles, Xbox exclusives, and integration with Xbox game pass and of course the PC master race!
Here are some of the biggest announcements that were showcased this year:
1.) The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild 2 is finally revealed with a release date of 2022
Zelda fans have been very patient with Nintendo and now have the sequel to the HIGHLY popular original Breath of the Wild to look forward to. The trailer teased a lot about Link’s future and what players can expect and when they can get their hands on it with a 2022 released announcement!

2.) Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy gets an *official* announcement and release date:
After so many rumors regarding Eidos Montreal’s secret project, they finally announced the Guardians of the Galaxy announcement! An action-adventure, single-player game that stars the famous eccentric band of misfits, the gameplay showcased Starlords moves and how you can command the team on the go during a battle that adds a sense of tactile gameplay. Gamers are hoping this takes the idea behind the Avengers game but improves upon it!

3.) Halo Infinite’s multiplayer gameplay was showcased:
There was nothing major from Halo infinite as expected from Microsoft but they did showcase a multiplayer trailer that shows the game going back to its root with the gameplay looking like the Halo 3 days with new abilities. One of the new abilities showcased was the grappling hook and the best part? Its multiplayer will be free-to-play across both Xbox and PC platforms and will be having a day one launch on Xbox Game pass!

4.) The new Rainbow Six Extraction gameplay was showcased with a trailer and release date:
The new 3-player co-op or single-player game which is based on the popular Rainbow Six Siege looks to put the Anti-terrorist operators against Archean enemies with new types of monstrous enemies. The game is set in four different zones that are contaminated within the US and you get to assemble the squad from a variety of 18 different operators!

5.) Elden Ring gets a trailer and release date:
One of the most hyped action RPGs and games, in general, is FromSoftware’s Elden Ring that is collaborating with writer George R. R. Martin who created the famous Game of Thrones series. He is creating the story and lore for this open-world game and after two years we finally got some new information! The trailer released showcases what can we expect from the game and probably the most important news is the release date - 21st January 2022!

6.) Netflix had announcements!
Yeah that’s right, Netflix the popular movie and TV show streaming platform had announcements during a gaming expo - but why? Netflix is working on some original series anime that are based on famous video games series with their first announcement being a new Castlevania animated series. After the Season 4 cliffhanger of the anime series Castlevania (based on the famous game), they announced a new show that will have a new Belmont, 'Richter Belmont' from Castlevania: Rondo of Blood.
They also showcased the new Splinter Cell anime series! Netflix is working with Ubisoft to bring Sam Fisher to the streaming platform and will be adapting the highly loved stealth franchise into an animated series that will be headed by the creator of John Wick, Derek Kolstand.
They also have a new anime version of Resident Evil coming to Netflix and are also working on a live-action series based on the Umbrella Corporation that will be focusing on Albert Wesker and his children and the inner workings of Umbrella Corp! At E3 they announced the cast that consists of Lance Reddic as Albert Wesker and Tamara Smart, Siena Agudong, Adeline Rudolph, Ella Balinska, and Paola Nunez who are all playing mystery roles.
Along with this, we got a new trailer for the Witcher Series! That’s right, Witcher season 2 is coming later this year and Netflix teased fans with what Geralt will get up to and how we, the fans, will finally meet Ciri in the new upcoming season!
7.) Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora has a release date of 2022:
James Cameron created a masterpiece with his film Avatar but Massive Entertainment just announced how they are working on expanding Pandora! They are working on a new first-person, action-adventure title which is described as a “standalone story [where you] play as a Na’vi and embark on a journey across the Western Frontier, a never-before-seen part of Pandora. Explore a living and reactive world inhabited by unique creatures and new characters, and push back the formidable RDA forces that threaten it.” Fans of the movie are excited to see how they will expand the universe while waiting for a sequel.
There were a lot more announcements, these were just some of the major ones. With so many releases coming soon, gamers are in for a treat!
