Jaden Smith's New Balance Venture

Jaden Smith's New Balance Venture

Jaden Smith reveals his first-ever signature sneaker with New Balance and it is the perfect blend between style and sustainability.

Jaden Smith originally signed a deal with New Balance in 2017 and since then he has tried to get the footwear brand to follow his steps in treading a path towards sustainability. The rapper and actor has always been an advocate for a more eco-friendly lifestyle and has used his platform time and again to increase awareness for the same by recycling and reducing the use of non-sustainable materials.

His company Just Water, that holds $100 million in valuation, sells responsibly sourced water packaged in bottles that are made of 82% renewable resources. His house and office space also features art pieces and furniture that is made from recycled junk material.

The artists newest venture revealed his first-ever signature sneaker with New Balance, the Vision Racer, and is constructed using sustainable, vegan-friendly, recycled materials. The primary design is a fusion of two of the most iconic NB silhouettes - 1700 and X-Racer - which, additionally, are also Smiths' personal favourites.

Releasing in a "Wavy Baby Blue" colourway, the sneaker has an interesting chunky midsole that is split into three rectangular blocks. The translucent outsole features the word ((VISION)) under it, which uses the same font as the titles of the singer's ERYS and SYRE albums.

A lining that reads ((VISION)) runs along the upper of the sneaker in black as well. The traditional N on the quarter panel is finished in hi-vis reflective material and so are the tongue webbing and upper piping.

The upper is made up of textiles and synthetic leather that is made up of recycled polyester. The insoles are made with a combination of recycled foam, castor bean oil and rubber.

Jaden’s signature can be spotted on both the insoles.

The colourway released on July 24th retailing for a price of $150 (Rs. 10,970 approx.)
