The Print Powerplay of 'Prxkhxr' Chauhan
Prakhar Chauhan has turned many heads with his energizing and edgy print designs. Read on to find out how his print-based brand 'Prxkhxr' came to be.
The ‘Prince of Prints’ Prakhar Chauhan is a Textile Design graduate from National Institute of Fashion Technology, Delhi. It was during his 3rd year at NIFT, when Chauhan participated in an exhibition, wherein all his personally ideated and designed pieces received widespread acclaim and praise, that the idea to start his own label was formed.
To further this vision and manifest it into a reality, Chauhan went onto hone his skills under the guidance of designers such as Suket Dhir and Abhishek Paatni - the founder of prolific streetwear label Nought One. It was after working with them and gaining industry exposure, that Chauhan realised the true extent of his passion for design along with fondness for prints, and decided to launch his gender fluid label ‘Prxkhxr’.

The ethos of the brand is to produce unique prints and textures in comfortable and youthful designs — garments that Chauhan describes as "achievable edgy".
The self-made and self-sustained designer is a one man army - starting from print ideation, motif sketching and digital development, to material sourcing, sampling and production management - every design and every print is delivered from concept to creation by Prakhar alone.
Chauhan creates a host of designs for the main focus and asset of the brand - Prints. Drawing inspiration from his personal taste in Art and Music, the designs include prints of animals, flowers and various other aspects of nature to the works of renowned Indian film director, writer, illustrator and music composer, Satyajit Ray. The designer also derives influences and design cues from Belgian designer Dries Van Noten and American designer, Rick Owens.
The label's design sensibilities all reflect ties to the designer's ethnic roots by also incorporating Indian accents and elements. The energetic and vibrant prints are further accentuated via bold and electric colours, and to establish a fine balance and further the inclusivity factor of his brand, Chauhan tends to gravitate towards simple, relaxed, nonconforming silhouettes constructed in breezy, handwoven cotton or silk that often feature embellishments like coconut shell buttons.
Being the lone wolf of a self-startup in an ever-changing, fiercely competitive industry poses its own challenges. Being a perfectionist and incredibly meticulous about his work, the designer discloses that he finds it difficult to entrust someone else to bring his vision to reality.
In a world that is heavily driven by the authenticity of current culture, and a rapidly growing market here in India, Chauhan strongly believes that the people within this space, be it a producer or consumer, should support and uplift each other.
In an attempt to take full advantage during the months of lockdown, Chauhan has been working on developing designs, streamlining his brand and growing as an artist and creator. He is currently working on an exciting collaboration that will release early next year, that he mentions is one of his best works yet!
