Look Out For The New 'Kid' On The Block

Meet Sayuj Patel, the one-man army behind the up and coming Bangalore based streetwear label "No One".

We weren't joking when we said 'Kid' - 15 year old Sayuj Patel is making waves with his self-initiated streetwear label, “No One”. The Bangalore based entrepreneur recalls how he first developed an interest in fashion and streetwear in particular.

“My friends, actually were big sneakerheads so they introduced me to street culture and street style initially. After that, the more I read and saw, the deeper I got invested into the culture.”

Citing Kanye West and Virgil Abloh as his inspirations, Patel mentions he began his journey into the world of fashion design through customising and printing a few T-shirts which ended up being the brands first official sales.

The epitome of start-up culture, the “No One” team consists of mainly two members - Patel and his tailor.

“It’s just me and my tailor, really. I go around sourcing my own fabrics, come up with designs and ideas and then we work together to get them going.”

With collections that feature vibrant colour blocking, eclectic prints as well as panelling and utility details, the brand holds a unique visual identity and sense of style. Operating primarily through Instagram, the posts feature Sayuj donning various garments in a signature pose with graphic cut out eyes in multicolour ellipses and a smattering of fire logos.

The brand is representative of Patel’s personal ideologies and aesthetics with inspirations from Indian streetwear brands such as Jaywalking and Bhaane whom he looks up to and maintains a personal relationship with, as well.

In terms of the near future, Patel plans on focusing on honing his skills and knowledge and wants to attend Parsons School of Design to help him further grow and expand the brand.

“I don’t really know right now. I’m focusing on getting through 10th grade and on to bigger things. I want to use the skills I learn through design school to help me create a much better brand. For me, I love change. I’m constantly coming up with new ideas and fresh ways to explore and represent them through my designs. So I don’t want to settle on just one thing.”
