KITH x BMW Partner For An Extensive One-Of-A-Kind Collaboration
Kith and legendary automotive brand BMW has joined forces for a multi-faceted partnership that bridges the past, present and future of the German based brand channeled through Kith’s sartorial lens. The Kith for BMW Collection is the first ever such collaboration that the automotive brand has embarked on.
Kith-founder Ronnie Fieg’s love and admiration for BMW dates back to his childhood memories of joyrides around Queens, in his grandfathers prized possession from the late 1980s — a classic red E30 M3. This nostalgia is what gave rise to this landmark partnership with BMW and taps into their renowned history to create a new experience that joins both the brand’s DNA.
The hallmarks for this partnership are a reiterated one-for-one Kith for BMW 1989 E30 M3 and a rendered BMW M4 Competition x Kith. This partnership also manifested a 94-style apparel and accessories collection, making it Kith’s largest deliverable till date.
The first reveal of this iconic collaboration was a complete rebuild of Kith’s personal 1989 E30 M3 in a timeless one-off transformation. The car retains a majority of its original components laced with advanced design updates that nods to both brands.
Ronnie Fieg’s M3 E30 was sent to BMW in Germany to be rebuilt using BMW Classic Parts from the ground up. These parts were sourced from various BMW archives to ensure each element was 100% authentic to the original 1989 model.
A special co-branded Kith for BMW emblem adorns the hood, trunk, rims and steering wheel while the Kith logo is translated in the Motorsport font that replaces the M3 logo on the right side of the trunk. The interiors are entirely re-crafted with the highest grade leather BMW has to offer and features an embossed Kith monogram pattern seen across the seats and door panels. Each and every detail down to the screws were carefully modified through Kith’s lens.
The BMW M4 Competition x Kith, is a collaborative design project for the newest generation of the M4 Competition. This limited edition model will be produced in only 150 units worldwide in a three-option colour palette. The modifications can be seen in the interiors and exteriors of the automobile.
The M Carbon seats have been rendered in a tri-colour makeup inspired by the automobiles production colour palette. The black merino leather has the Kith monogram embossed on the front and rear headrests and armrest with 1updated illuminated Kith Motorsport badges for the front headrest.
The exterior rear deck-lid sports a blank Kith logo in the Motorsport typeface with the same tri-coloured stripes. Kith has also reimagined the roundel emblem on the hood, making it the first in BMW’s history that a production car will carry an updated roundel.
To compliment the automobile make-over, the partnership comprises of a 94-piece collection of co-branded threads and accessories. The range is an ode to the classic BMW 1989 aesthetic interwoven with Kith’s knack for modern sport luxury.
The designs combine Kith’s signature silhouettes and custom-milled fabrics with BMW’s classic colour palette and iconography across a range of knitwear like colour-blocked cardigans, intarsia sweaters, elevated outerwear like kimono blazers, racing-inspired jackets, suede bombers, retro nylon track-suits and an an assortment of graphic goodies and tees.
The collection also offers a wide selection of accessories inspired by the BMW lifestyle. Auto-centric products like custom valve caps, microfibre towels, license plate frames, gear-inspired headwear, scarves and driving gloves, as well as, home goods like a 1989 E30 Me die cast replica, umbrella, mugs and pillows round out the Kith x BMW range.
