Balenciaga Enters The League Of Football Kits With An Experimental Debut
Known for revolutionising the fashion landscape with groundbreaking designs, Balenciaga has been one of the few most prominent design houses to change the face of women’s fashion. Having delved into the sneaker and sportswear division in the last few decades, the brand has now added a rather luxe touch to the famous silhouettes of football jerseys and football boots.
The brand launched its first jersey variants and boots in the Autumn Winter 2020 collection earlier this year. Spearheaded by the current creative director Demna Gvasalia, the inspiration behind the football kit comes from Demna’s childhood, being surrounded by priests and footballers for a majority of time. Featuring 4 different colourways, the kits consist of jerseys, socks and boots.
The jerseys feature the staple graphic Balenciaga logo, and a logo designed for a hypothetical Balenciaga football club, maintaining the context of the jersey shirts. While retaining the sportiness of the fits, the brand has added a few alterations in order to add extra value.
Each shirt features a wide and boxy fit, made from premium quality cotton, ensuring maximum lounge comfort. The jersey is available on the official Balenciaga online boutique, between a price range of $780 (Rs. 57,505 approx.) and $1,190 (Rs. 87,730 approx.)
Adorning a rather simplistic design language and monochromatic colourways, Balenciaga’s football boots are entirely leather free. Made from Polyurethane, the boot features a round toe and an elasticated rubber tongue, with the Balenciaga logo imprinted on it. Each shoe features a total of 13 cleats on the sole and the boot comes with a fold-over tongue and elastic strap, along with intricate overstitching on the upper.
