On-The-Grid This Week: Sneakers, Jewelry, and Runway Collections

From handcrafted, nostalgia-inspired jewelry and sneakers born out of triple collaborations to everyday fits, and distinctive runway collections, here is a round-up of the week.

To fill up the dearth of handcrafted, curated ornaments imbued with narratives, Bhavya Ramesh Jewelry and No Borders have come together for a jewelry capsule collection - P A N K H, celebrating Indian culture. With peacock being the recurring motif that reigns supreme in the 5-piece capsule, nostalgia and silhouettes of decades past run free as well.

From three-way maang tikkas, artisanal armlets/necklets to silver ear links and hair bobbies, all come crafted with sterling silver and dipped in gold. Whilst paying an ode to Indian roots, the jewelled photo series- Braids across Borders sings a soulful serenade of inclusivity by including disparate identities, communities and genders.

The Nike Air Max 97

In recent years, Nike has drawn a lot of influence from the 1990s. The iconic sneakers were first released back in 1997 when sportswear was just an upcoming & exciting market in the retail industry. The shoes have a special relationship with Japan, with the original ripple pattern inspired by Japanese bullet trains, allowing you to take your style ahead “full-speed.” Through this, they became highly demanded in the Eastern Asian market.

Luar’s Spring 2022 collection, Teteo Basico

The return of Luar post a three-season hiatus was a much needed refresher in the New York Fashion Week schedule. Raul Lopez labelled this collection ‘Teteo Básico’ and proclaimed that it was an invitation to embrace being basic.

The S/S 2022 collection opted to be more wearable and commercial, while still paying homage to the designer’s Dominican heritage. Lopez adds distinctive patterns and prints on classic pieces, adorns pearl earrings on his models and creates loungewear out of french silks. The gender-fluid runway featured half-kilts, sweatsuits, boxy jackets, and asymmetrical trousers all adding the perfect amount of city grit and romance. Lopez has managed to figure out how to make clothing that’s wearable but sleek and sexy. Proving that you don’t have to sacrifice form for function ever again!
